Girls room vs. Boys room

Oh man, I am so in love with our spare room!

Remember when it looked like this?
Well, after a much MUCH needed re-plaster, it's been given a coat of
Dulux paint (in cookie dough) and  we've been out buying bits and pieces to give it
a homely warm feel.

The carpet is dark grey, so we went with complimentary brown walls which looked
darker on the tin, but we knew it would dry lighter. It's a gorgeous colour that changes with the natural light throughout the day.

I finally got my wall vinyl! Although we still have the shelves to put up on the branches, it looks so cute already - it was fairly fiddly being so big, my tip is to cut it down and do it in smaller sections.

The bed isn't finished yet, I need another mattress for when it's a double bed, thanks ikea for only delivering one...! It wasn't too bad to build, hubs was a real trooper helping out.

The mint shelves on the walls under my cute little state frames are ikea spice racks.
I saw the idea on Pinterest - I painted them with Annie Sloan chalkpaint, waxed them, distressed the edges to give them a vintage look, then waxed them and hung them.
They look totally cute, I'm so pleased!

I have just ordered the cutest lamp too, I have to share it with y'all!
Here it is on mini style blog.

Poor hubs  -  this was meant to be his man-cave, for when he can't sleep so he has a spare room to crash in and relax. It's slowly turned more and more into a feminine room....!
But there is logic in my madness!
It's always been decided that it'll eventually be the nursery when we have a baby. I didn't want to decorate for a man room then redecorate again for a baby, especially as we're hoping that transition will happen fairly soon.
So this room has instantly been designed with a nursery in mind (of course, it'll be adapted to the gender of the baby and with more baby-like decor). My plan is now to clear out the larger spare room, now that we know what we do and don't have room for, and I plan to decorate that large spare room to be very masculine. He finally gets his man room!

So far, all I know is that we'll probably keep the existing carpet which is a faded shade of green. The walls will need re-papering, or sanding and painting. There are two alcoves that currently house two wardrobes, but I'd like to utilise the alcoves for their symmetry, so I'm thinking of neutral walls with wallpaper in the alcoves......

I am loving these brick and wood prints!

I'd like to make the room a nod to our wedding and holiday,
I've seen some ideas I would like to explore more....scratch map of the USA, our framed shooting range targets, cactus's,our AZ and LV license plates....
I don't want to theme the room too much, as I want it to be warm and welcoming for our guests, but I also want it to match and remind us of happy times.

We have to finish the bathroom first so it could take a while.... as usual,
I may totally change my mind by then!

Stay tuned! :)
